‘The First Performance of Lived Fiction’ Cartoon – Text Description

The cartoon is an A4 size, with a title, followed by a full-width image then two half-width images. The colours used are the project brand colours – different blues and greys with accents of red and purple.
The title ‘The First Performance of Lived Fiction’ is followed by cartoon images of the faces of the team members with their names underneath: Ann, Léa, Delia, Hilary, Iryna, and Eva.
The first full-width picture shows all the researchers standing in a picturesque square of Maynooth University. Léa says ‘safe travels to the UK’. Eva says, ‘It will be great to see the full piece on stage after the rehearsals at Dance Ireland earlier this year’. Delia explains ‘we are going to Guildford to see the first staging of the choreography created especially for our project’. Ann adds ‘and we are running a focus group afterwards to gauge opinions on accessibility and inclusivity’.
The second picture is set at the Ivy Arts Centre. The title reads ‘Sho Shibata of Stopgap Dance Company welcomes Ann and Delia to Guildford’. Ann exclaims ‘Here we are!’. Sho responds ‘welcome! We are almost ready to start our rehearsals!’.
The third picture is set in a café. Delia says, ‘I took a lot of notes during the rehearsal…and I look forward to seeing the full show now!’. Ann adds ‘The performance commences at 3pm and the focus group will be at 4:45pm. We have all consent forms including those in easy-to-read format’.
The fourth picture shows the stage and two performers dancing. One is using a wheelchair and the other is standing in front of the first dancer, tilting the chair backwards. There are audience members watching. There is no speech.
The title of the last picture is ‘after the performance and the focus group, an eventful day comes to a close’. Delia says, ‘it was great and very valuable to hear different perspectives on accessibility’. Ann concludes ‘the focus group was very insightful, indeed. I look forward to analysing the data!’.
