Download PDF version of ‘The DANCING Project in 16 Cartoons’ in a separate window.

This booklet is a collection of all sixteen cartoons published as part of the ERC DANCING project. The cartoons feature the members of the DANCING team, and the colour palette makes use of blues, white, and turquoise with accents of yellow, reflecting the DANCING colour palette. The first page presents all the people that were part of the DANCING team at different junctures of the project, and their face icons are depicted in a circle. At the centre of the circle is the title of the booklet: ‘The DANCING Project in 16 Cartoons’ over a yellow shape which contrasts with the blue shades of the background. In the bottom left corner are the logos of Maynooth University, the Assisting Living and Learning (ALL) Institute, the flag of the European Union and the logo of the funding body, the European Research Council (ERC). The booklet is 20 pages long and features a foreword at the beginning as well as acknowledgments at the end.

The foreword is presented in a white font on a page with different shades of blue in the background and reads: This booklet collects the sixteen cartoons created as part of the project ‘Protecting the Right to Culture of Persons with Disabilities and Enhancing Cultural Diversity through European Union Law: Exploring New Paths (DANCING)’, funded by the European Research Council (ERC) under the Consolidator Grant No. 864182.

Commenced on September 1st, 2020, DANCING has been a long journey and is now getting close to an end. These sixteen cartoons represent these (almost) five years of research, achievements, milestones and significant events. They also include some of the findings of DANCING and highlight its key outputs.

Using cartoons as part of DANCING communication and dissemination strategy is part of my broader commitment to inclusivity and impact. By making the research conducted in DANCING known to the general public, I aimed to ignite public interest and spark meaningful change. In fact, Norbert’s cartoons represent DANCING – in all its complexity and multifaceted activities – with humour, colour, and flow to captivate viewers while conveying complex research activities. All cartoons are also accompanied by a text description and an audio description, which showcases my commitment to accessibility.

These five years have been somewhat a rollercoaster, but I have been surrounded by a talented and brilliant team, who supported my work and made it possible for DANCING to reach its ambitious objectives. I am grateful to all of them as well as to all colleagues and friends who feature in the cartoons.

The booklet then moves on to present all the different cartoons. Every cartoon presents in a similar format, being A-4 sized with the indication DANCING Project at the top left followed by the title and the face icons of the team members with their names underneath. Every cartoon presents five frames, four half-width and one full-width, and the colour palette used is consistent with the DANCING palette. Underneath each cartoon is the acknowledgement to the ERC with the logo of the EU, the ERC, and the following text: This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme (grant agreement No. 864182).

In chronological order, the cartoons present the milestones, events and activities carried out during the project, introducing new members who joined the team at different stages and some of the collaborators, colleagues and friends of the project.

The back cover then presents the acknowledgments in a white font against a background of different shades of blue. The acknowledgments read: This booklet would not have been possible without the many people who collaborated in it, contributing to the storyline, providing new ideas and featuring in the cartoons. Most of all, I would like to warmly thank Norbert Croonenberg, who translated my vision and DANCING words into graphics and was deeply kind and patient with our feedback. I would also like to thank Stopgap Dance Company, as well as all colleagues, friends and collaborators that feature in these cartoons. Lastly, I would like to thank the School of Law and Criminology and the ALL Institute for their continued support.

The back cover then shows the DANCING logo on different shades of blue.
